2019 YIMKIN Formula Junior restoration blog

This Yimkin was bought by my father in 1977 as a wreck. During his time the car was raced at Castle Howard and Harewood Hillclimb as part of the Guyson Championship as well as sprinting at Elvington with the MG Car Club, during which time he was a member of BARC Yorkshire.

It was fitted with a FORD 1500 pre x-flow engine with a full race head and a standard Webber 28/36 carburettor. The bodywork was home made as a 'best guess' and before being sold it was fitted with a brake servo and Austin A70 drums on the front, the mudguard stays were moved to the front uprights, the rear end was lowered and the car was fitted with wider alloy wheels.

His time up Harewood in 1977 was 56 seconds dry.
